Dr. Joe Betz Joins ABC Board of Trustees

AUSTIN, Texas (March 1, 2023) — The American Botanical Council is pleased to announce that pharmacognosist Joseph M. Betz, PhD, has been elected to the ABC Board of Trustees. Dr. Betz served in the United States government for 33 years, 12 years as a research chemist at the US Food and Drug Administration, and 21 years at the National Institutes of Health’s Office of Dietary Supplements. For the past four-and-a-half years, he was the acting director of ODS.
ABC’s Sustainable Herbs Program Launches Updated Sustainability and Regenerative Practices Toolkit 2.0

AUSTIN, Texas (March 3, 2023) – The American Botanical Council’s Sustainable Herbs Program has launched the SHP Sustainability and Regenerative Practices Toolkit 2.0, an updated, expansive collection of resources to generate awareness and engage leaders in the global botanical industry in implementing ecologically and socially responsible practices. BAPP Best Practices Standard Operating Procedure for Disposal/Destruction of Irreparably Defective Articles

The ABC-AHP-NCNPR Botanical Adulterants Prevention Program (BAPP) announces the completion and public availability of its long-awaited Best Practices Standardized Operation Procedure (SOP) for the Disposal / Destruction of Irreparably Defective Articles. These best practices are a voluntary standards initiative designed to assist responsible buyers in the herb, dietary supplement, food cosmetics, and over-the-counter (OTC) drug industries to remove "irreparably defective articles" from the supply chain.
